A partnership between the City of Yoakum and the Texas Department of Transportation resulted in the Chisholm Trail Memorial Park, a magnificent display memorializing the yesteryears that brought Yoakum from the cattle drive junction of Southwest Texas to a bustling railroad boomtown and, from there to today's Leather Capital of the World.

Along with the generous donations from civic minded individuals, the Texas Landscape Cost Sharing Program administered by TxDOT brought this unique project to life.

The five point star formation lined with white rock indigenous to the Yoakum area is accented with larger than life topiaries, lush trees and native plants that bring the history left behind by our forefathers back to us todayThis welcoming portal portrays longhorn cattle on their journey North ushered along by a horse and rider with the help of his faithful cowdogs.

Enjoy a short stroll through this scenic park, have a picnic or just sit under the huge oak tree and enjoy the lovely surroundings that make up our memorial to the cattle drivers who worked so hard at molding this country and our community.

As beautiful and serene as the park is during the day, sundown enhances the ambiance of the park with an entirely new allure.
